Science Treasures

This week we have been focusing on different aspects of science. We have looked at the Human Body, the Animal Kingdom, Plants and Trees, the Solar System, and we even had a bit of time to look at the America's Cup (Go New Zealand!).

On Monday we looked at the Human Body. We looked at organs and functions of our body. Take a look at what Lui did.

On Tuesday we looked at the Animal Kingdom. We know that there are many animals around the world, but we didn't know that they had classifications. Look at what Kisa has done!

On Wednesday, we looked at Plants and Trees. There are so many out there! Take a look through this research presentation that Angel completed.

On Thursday, we looked at the Solar System. There is so much in space that we are still to learn about. Look at what Ciannah has done.

On Friday, we decided to take a look at our recent national champion sport, America's Cup! There was so much to learn, and so much we did learn. It was a fun thing to learn about, especially with it being recent news that it was just won by New Zealand. Take a look at what Moimoi has completed.

Year 5/6 Camp 2021

We had camp for our Year 5 and 6 learners this past week. Year 5 and 6 camp focuses on each child forming relationships with each other. Even though they may be in different classes and spaces, they are split into groups where they can make new friends, and learn to complete activity rotations with people they don't usually hang out with.

We had three activities a day, rotating with the other groups. Our activities consisted of Camp Concert practice, Slip'n'slide, Kayaking, Killer Zone, Cyclo-Ball and Table Tennis+Skating. Each night we had a camp-wide activity. Wednesday night we had a movie night, where we watched Incredibles 2, and on Thursday night we had Camp Concert, which gave our families the opportunity to watch our children perform. Then on Friday, we got to spend the day at Jellicoe pools.

We had so much fun! A huge thank you to our teachers who put the camp together, and our whānau that came to help. We appreciate you so much!

Watch our highlights movie to see some of the things we got up to!

Feel free to leave a positive comment, and visit our learners blogs to see what they had to say about Year 5 and 6 Camp!

KiwiSport in Room 6

Room 6 has been doing Boxfit for KiwiSport this term. We have Coach Pat teach us some skills, and we have been working hard to learn them all. We have learnt how to stand correctly, throw cross-jabs, and use the right technique for a hook and uppercut.Take a look at what we have learnt so far!

A huge thank you to Coach Pat for coming in and teaching us. We know it hasn't been easy, especially because of Covid19 interruptions, but we truly appreciate it! Thank you Coach :)

Treasures of the World

Following on with our topic, Team 4 have been looking at treasures around the world. This week, we looked at the Wonders of the World. Everyday this week we have a different focus.

Monday our focus was the Great Pyramids of Giza. The pyramids are one of the oldest man-made wonders of the world, and even some scientists and historians struggle to find how it was made with limited technology. Check out what Prodeus has done!

On Tuesday, the wonder we focused on was the Great Wall of China. We found out that the wall is over 21,000 kilometres long and it was a collection of walls built over time. Check out what Karmar-Jade has done.

Wednesday, our wonder we learnt about was the Statue of Liberty. We learnt that even though it is located in New York, it was actually the French that designed and built Lady Liberty. The Statue also symbolised a friendship between France and the United States of America, and was also a welcoming to those coming through the New York Harbour. Check out what Moimoi has done!

On Thursday, we looked at the Amazon Rainforest. It is so big that we don't know the approximate size that the forest covers, but we do know that the rainforest stretches over 9 different countries in South America. Check out what Lute has done!

Feel free to check out our blogs and leave positive comments.

Treasure our Cultures!

This week we are looking at how we can consider our cultures as a treasure. We have a mix of cultures in our team, so we thought we would mix it up a bit.

Monday we focused on Māori culture. It was an awesome day of tasks and fun things for our children to learn. They were able to research different aspects of the culture, from food, performing arts, clothes and language. Check out what Prodeus and Kasaline have completed.

On Tuesday, we took a look into different Pasifika cultures. This includes Tonga, Samoa, Cook Island and Niue, which have big numbers in our school and community. We were able to see different Myths and Legends (and see some similarities there), food, dance, and even how they navigated their way to their Islands. Check out what Ciannah and Kasaline have completed.

We can't wait to find out what other cultures we will be exploring as the week goes on. We are working hard online and making an effort to come to our scheduled Google Meets. Yay for Remote Learning!
