Thank you Whaea Kiri for making Te Reo Māori so fun!

Team 4 Fun Day

Team 4 was lucky enough to have a fun day, especially because they got to have two activity days earlier in the term. There were so many things that our class got to do - there was an inflatable obstacle course, we got to ride on our school bikes around the bike track, played inflatable soccer darts, played multisports, inflatable jousting, and we even got to watch a movie! It was a day packed full of fun, and we were all so glad that we could all spend the day together. Thank you to our teachers for our juicies at the end of the day, it was a great way to end all of the fun!

P.E.N.N Movie - Year 5 & 6 Activity Days

On Thursday and Friday in Week 6, Team 4 had activity days. There were different teams. There were Tui, Kea, Pukeko and the best one ever, Weka. I was in Weka. We had our own leaders and teachers. My teacher was Miss Tuiā and my leaders were Ciannah and Willy. All of Team 4 were put into different groups. Team 4 were meant to have Year 5 and 6 camp, but because of Covid19 we couldn’t so we had to have these activities.

The first rotation my group did was Slip n Slide. A Slip n Slide is when there is a long plastic sheet that is sprayed with water and soap. While the slide was getting soaped up and wet, my group put their togs on. Some of us weren’t sliding because we didn't have togs or we had a note. Before we started on the slide, our teacher made us warm up by making us run to the gate and back. My group went on the slide and then after a few minutes, we played a game with a cone. It’s when you have the challenge to get the cone in the middle of two people. Then after that, most of our group went on the slide again and again. We played the game with the cone to dry up in the sun a bit, and then we went back for another round on the slide. We finally finished on the slide, and made our way back to class with everyone else to have morning tea.

The next rotation my team did was Multisport. Multisport is when you play different sports at the same time and have separate groups. Our groups were A, B, C and D. I was in Group C, and we had a to challenge Group A. It was so fun. Group B and D challenged each other in soccer and Group A and C challenged each other in volleyball. Then we switched over to soccer. When we played soccer, half of my group left and there was only me, my friends and one boy. The other team had about 2 people and so one of our players had to go on their team. We played for a long time and the keeper kept beating us. Ke kept on losing until one of our players kicked the ball from far and I kicked it and scored a goal. We kept playing soccer for a few more minutes and then the bell went for us to have lunch. A part of our lunch was ice cream from one of the teachers, but we could only have it if we finished all of our lunch food. Then we were allowed to go play.

After lunch we played Cyclo-Soccer. Cyclo-Soccer is when you have a bike, a big yoga ball, and you have to try to hit the ball with your wheel to your goal. We, of course, needed a helmet for this game. Our group got split into 2 different teams and coloured bands. I was in green and the other group was blue. Mr Jacobsen called a number and that's how many people had to go out on the field. It was just like soccer but if we put our feet on the ground, we had to ride away. We were also not allowed to kick the ball with our feet. It is a really really fun game but kind of dangerous for some people. After that it was home time.

On Friday, the next day, we carried on with our activities. The teachers told us where our next activity was.  My group was on scooters and skateboards with different games like ping pong. I stayed on the skateboards most of the time because I like skateboards. My friends were on the scooters or inside. I decided to go inside and play ping pong, and look at the other games. Then I went back outside and played on the skateboards. The bell rang so we had our morning tea.

We had our lunch because the teachers told us we were going to have something special for lunch - pizza and fizzy drinks. We got split up into groups again so that we could watch a movie. There were two groups in each room. I was with Tui and we were watching a movie called Encanto. Before we had the pizza and fizzy, we watched a little bit of the movie. Then the teacher told us to line up and get our pizza and fizzy drink. We went outside to eat so we didn't make a mess on the carpet .We had the pizza and drinks and then when we were finished we went back inside and started watching the movie . We started from the part we were on  . Then in a couple minutes we went to go and play and help the teacher put some things away .We went out and played for our break. When we came back we watched it again but from the part we were on.The teachers started giving out lollipops and lollies. The movie ended, and then it was home time.

Team 4 Activity Days were so fun. I enjoyed being with my friends and doing different activities at school. I can’t wait until Year 6 Camp at the end of the year.

Introducing Room 6 for 2022!

This is Room 6 at Point England School for 2022!

We are so excited for what this year has planned for us. Some of us are new to the school, new to Team 4, and the rest of us new to the 678 area.

Our theme this year is 'Kua Riro Māu - Responsibility, It's Up To You'. We will be learning about what it takes to be responsible, what we are responsible for and how we can be responsible. There are so many things that we can do to show everyone that we are responsible citizens, and we can't wait!

Because of Covid19, the annual events that we have this year will be a bit different. Some of the things we are looking forward to this year is Year 5 and 6 Camp, Swimming, Manaiakalani Film Festival, PES Sports, Year 6 Camp, and many more events.

Make sure to check out our class blog, as well as our individual blogs that you will find along the side. Feel free to leave positive comments.

Netball with Miss Tuiā

On Friday afternoon, a group of 8 students were able to play netball with Miss Tuiā. It was our designated time to go outside for some P.E. We broke up into groups, and then Miss Tuiā explained the rules to us - where we were allowed to go, what we had to do to get points, and what we weren't allowed to do. We got to play for half an hour, and we really enjoyed it. Watch the hyperlapse of us having heaps of fun!

Team 4 Dress-Up Day!

Today is the last day of Term 3, and eam 4 Teachers wanted to have a bit of fun with our classes. We challenged our children dress up as their favourite Superhero or Movie character. This challenge was given to see how creative our kids can be, especially because they couldn't just leave the house and buy a costume from the store. Some of our children asked their parents for help, or even their clothes. Some of them made their costumes out of different materials they found around the house. They even had to use household items in place of actual props!

Happy Holidays Everyone!

We're in Level 3!

Auckland is moving into Level 3! We have a few students that have been going into school for Bubble School, and our amazing Mrs Lagitupu went in as the Teacher. Even though we have moved levels, we are still learning online from home. We are aware of the rules for Level 3 and we are ensuring that we keep healthy and safe. This week, our teachers decided that our learning for this week is all about Te Whare Tapa Wha. By looking into this subject, we were able to look into our well-being - something we are making sure is well looked after.

Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori: Words for the Week

This week was Māori Language Week. We looked at some of the different important to Māori Culture. They are Whānaungatanga (relationships), Whenua (land and environment), Whānau (family), Whakapapa (heritage and lineage) and Kōrero (talking). These are important values that we like to teach Point England students so that they are confident in their identities and comfortable being in our PES whānau.

Back in Level 4 Lockdown!

Tuesday the 17th of August at 6pm, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced that we would be going into Level 4 Lockdown at 11:59pm that night. That didn't give us much time to prepare at all! Some of our devices were still at school, and we had to start our Online Learning pretty much straight away.

Lucky Pt England has been through this before. It's almost like we're experts at this whole Online Learning thing.

We started our first day of Online Learning on Wednesday the 18th August. Pretty good turn out for so many having left their devices at school. But our whānau are so supportive of their children, and they have made ways for their children to meet online with us.

Happy Learning from Room 6 to the rest of New Zealand!

Breakfast Club in Team 4

Our focus this term is 'Healthy Me Healthy You'. Team 4 decided that to help their journey to become more healthy, we would keep a Healthy Me Diary, where they write down their food intake and daily exercise. We noticed that a few of our students were leaving their breakfast column empty, and when we questioned them, they said it's because they either didn't have time or they didn't want breakfast. So the Team 4 teachers decided to have a breakfast club. By giving our students the option to have breakfast at school, they won't have to rush at home, and they will have a quick healthy breakfast.

Today we had our first day of Breakfast Club. We set up our station in Room 678 and welcomed students through to have breakfast. On the menu today was Weetbix. The children would tell the teacher how many weetbix they want, tip their own milk, and then find a seat around the classroom.

It was great to have some students come through and enjoy a sit-down breakfast with their friends. Cheers to a nutritious breakfast! To the rest of Team 4, come and enjoy some breakfast on a Monday and Thursday morning :)

We will be focussing on the Olympics, and how to live and maintain a healthy lifestyle. It is going to be a fun term of PE/Health. Tighten up your shoelaces and get ready for your learning!

Each week, we will see a different teacher in team 4 to get a bit of physical education in. We will also be filling out a weekly diary tracking our food intake and exercise.

Check out the video our teachers put together during the holidays for 'Healthy Me, Healthy You'.

Magic Show

At 1:30pm Team 4 and Team 5 went to a magic show that happened last week on friday at school in the hall.  The magician did some funny magic tricks and everyone started to laugh.  It was fun. Emeline my friend, Emeline went up the stage and the magician did some tricks on Emeline and the whole crowd. When the magician was holding the wand it was straight but when Emeline was holding the wand it would just fall apart, everyone was laughing so hard that the magician kept doing funny tricks to Emeline. Willam went up the stage too, the magician put superhero clothes on and put some vitamin paper on the costume. Here are some vitamins that the magician said are vitamin B, vitamin A, vitamin B3, vitamin C and many more vitamins. The magician got a rubix cube and it was mixed up, but when he put it in the blox and shaked it, he pulled out the rubix cube and it was solved!

I really enjoyed how we learned about the 5 nutrients that are dairy, protein, grains, vegetables and fruits. My second favorite trick was when Emeline went up to the stage and she was doing magic tricks. My last favourite trick was when the rabbit came out of the cage.

Written by Swaimah (Room 6 Literacy)

On a rainy day at Pt England school, Team 4 and 5 were going to the hall to watch the Magic Show. The show began and everyone started to clap and shout. During the magic show I actually loved 3 of the things he did. I loved the part when he threw that white long string and it was coming towards us. I was a little bit scared but then it was funny. I loved the part when he put the bird in a bucket and he turned it into a fluffy cute rabbit, it’s name was called Lollipop. I loved when he put random colours in a circle skinny bucket. When he did that hand magic he pulled the top of the colour and the colours turned into a colourful long fat string. All the other things that were a part of the magic show were actually cool too. When I first saw Lollipop (the rabbit) I wanted to hold him tight like it was my pet I haven’t seen in years. Some of them were funny. I saw that the birds were looking at us while watching him do magic stuff. I really enjoyed the magic show and hoped he would come back to do more magic. Finally the magic show finished and a brave boy came to say a good thank you for coming.
