I Am

 2020 Manaiakalani Film Festival

Room 678 presents our 2020 film festival movie I Am! Trying to find a word to best describe who you are can be really difficult and we often don't think about what we are we focus on what we are not. This year we decided to focus on who we are as learners, family and kids. Our movie hopes to show that you are you and you should be proud of who you are! We really hope you enjoy our movie and remember I Am Me!

Letter Writing

Our theme for this week was ANZAC Day. With ANZAC being a part of New Zealand's history, we thought it was important to further our knowledge of some of the events.

We talked about how the ANZAC soldiers kept in contact with their friends and family back at home. We discussed how they would be feeling being away from them for so long. Because of Covid-19, we haven't been able to see some of our own friends and family. Our tasks was to write a letter to someone that we missed.

Check out some of the letters that we wrote!

Kahoot via. Google Meets

Today our class did a fun afternoon activity. We played Kahoot with our teacher via Google Meets.

The quiz was all about the Earth and even though some questions were hard, we had fun doing it online with our peers.

Congratulations to those who made it onto the podium - Paula (3rd place), Exodus (2nd place) and Cora (1st place).

Hopefully we can play it again!

Picture Books

WALT: create our own picture books.

This week, Room 6 have been doing tasks that have led them to making a picture book. They had to draw dinosaurs on Google Meets, learn about dinosaurs and practice their creative writing before they got straight into it.

Check them out! Please leave them a comment telling them what you think.

Story Starters

WALT: write creatively.

One of the tasks that the students in Room 6 were given was called Story Starters. Our teacher gives us the start of the story and we have to continue it. In these stories, we use our imagination and then we make sure to use creative words to make it interesting.

Check out what some of our learners did!

Kasaline: Journey to school.

It was a cold, bright morning as this young girl named Kate and young boy named Andrew walked to school as they arrived at school. They were waiting in their classroom for the students and the teacher to come and sit them down until the bus came along and take the students to their destination. Once the teacher and the students arrived the teacher did the roll and they walked in a line to the bus and that's where everyone is then all of the teachers send their children to sit down on the bus and once everyone settled then the teachers got on and the driver closed the door and then he drove to the place that they needed to go to for their trip. Then they arrived at the place and they got off and they said thank you to the driver who drove them to the place. When they got there they started to explore the mountain. Then it was time for lunch and then the children walked to sit down and eat their food. Once everyone was finished eating their lunch they went for one more exploration of the mountain. After it was time to go they got everything and got on the bus then the teachers did the roll again to make sure that everyone was here once the teachers did the roll then they told the driver to go and he went back to school where the parents were waiting to pick up their kids and they all had a great time.

Taoro: Dragons.

Dragons above the clouds, dragons in the sky with their  Wings flapping in the sky causing strong winds to be felt on Earth’s surface. The things the dragons do above the clouds was making the humans very scared because above the clouds these two dragons were fighting over an egg the other dragon was trying to get the egg because that egg was that dragons egg then the other was trying to steal the egg from its mum. Next they did when the were fighting the other dragon was going to shoot out fire even the other dragon was going to shoot out fire but then when they shot out fire the humans were screaming as HECK!  But once they didn't have any energy they fell to the ground and smashed onto the  grass  causing a big deep hole. Then once it was over the humans came out and did not see a single dragon in their life so they continued  living their life.

Kelly: Dragons.

Wings flapping in the sky causing strong winds to be felt on Earth’s surface.
What was happening above the clouds? Wait, what was that? Roars blaring from the sky making humans become worried.
Wings continued to flap and the dragons soaring through the clouds. Everyone shouted AAHHHHH!!!, HELP.
With everyone panicking it made everything worse the dragons started sending others of their species.  Someone had an idea but officially no one would listen so he had another idea. What he did was drived and got a lot of puppys so everyone will listen. The world still continued to shake so the man had to hurry. Everyone he shouted “we needa stick together and make sure we stay calm with the puppys in a box because everyone likes puppys so everyone will look at the puppys and yeah.

Google Drawings in Room 6

Room 6 has been learning different skills on their Chromebooks. They were given a challenge to try and draw themselves on Google Drawing. This task definitely tested our patience, but we stuck in there and got it done. Check out our self portraits and goals!

Identifying the different cities in New Zealand

WALT: identify cities in New Zealand and find out some information about cities that are unfamiliar

Our activity was to familiarise ourselves with the different cities that were in our country. Our teacher put the names of some cities in New Zealand along the side and it was our job to place them in the correct spot. We were able to look at Google Images to research where these cities lay on our countries islands.

Kelly

Vika

Then we had to choose a city we haven't been to or heard of, and research 5 facts about it.

We are hoping to learn more and more about our beautiful country throughout the year!

What is hope?

Grace

What is hope?

Hope means being smart on what you go on and never giving up on what you hate to do, also hope means that you try your best at everything you try to do.

Hope means showing the right way and showing positive things around the people around you, also hope means being confident of what you do.

Hope means supporting people and showing courage to people and showing people trust.

Zechariah

What is hope?

Hope is never giving up.
Hope is knowing that teamwork makes a dream work.
Hope is believing in yourself,
Hope is being confident.
Hope is when you are supporting someone.
Hope is when you are trying your best.
Hope is a positive thing.
Hope is when you wish to be good at something.

Lincoln

What is hope?

Hope is that you never give up in your work.
Hope means I believe in yourself.
Trying your best
Never lose hope
Teamwork makes a dream work
Setting a goal
Trust
A positive thing

A wish
And hope means that you can set a goal.
Hope means that you can make a wish.
You can try your best by not giving up.
A promise means that when you say I will help you then you will help them.
And hope means never lose hope in yourself.
And hope means that you can trust other people.

Introducing Room 6 for 2020!

Welcome to the new students, and welcome back to our other students! I start the new decade as a teacher to not only Year 6's, but some Year 5's as well. Most of the children in this class have already experienced being in a shared learning environment, and others were moving from a single cell class.

I was privileged to get to know some of these children in 2019, and I couldn't wait to get to meet and build relationships everyone else, especially those who came from other schools.

Our theme for this year is 'kia mau tonu te tūmanako' which means never lose hope. I am looking forward to seeing the children in Room 6 show their will to never give up, and to use this opportunity to help others who may need it.

Feel free to visit our Room 6 blog and leave comments, and even go and check some of the children's work throughout the year (you can find their blogs on the side bar or on the Point England School site) - I know they would love that!
